Sask. woman wins legal battle against drug dealer
In fact any doctor has an obligation to ensure a patient, once under their care, does not harm themselves or others. They have no choice but to breech the client patient priviledge and alert the authorities. As I said before it generally does little good if the addict does not want to quit. In the end, it is good to see another meth dealer off the streets. It is good to see this young woman survive to tell her tale. It is sad to see her try to pawn the responsibility of her actions on someone else. This means that her and her family are not truely on the road to recovery. They are in denial. This means she will be spreading half truths to those who would engage her to speak because she had never faced the truth of her actions herself.
A 'small' advantage
From Shasta College, Alysha transferred to Sacramento State College and earned a degree in political science. While attending Sacramento State, Alysha paid her way through school by working in a restaurant, an experience that she feels was a great help in securing her future career. "While I feel my education has helped me to become successful and has opened doors for me," she related, "I can't discount how important my work experiences during high school and college were." With all the emphasis that gets put on education, it's important to remember that financial self-reliance is also key to success. Great teachers Some of Alysha's best memories from high school are of the teachers that had a positive influence on her life. The two individuals she highlighted in particular are Mr.
Popping the question
Though we had told her she could start dating when she reached the prime age of 35, she jumped the gun on us and started dating Tom Poch at college in Minneapolis sometime in the fall of 2002. Tom was interested enough in Elizabeth that he arranged to spend Christmas vacation with our family that year, and we (four daughters strong) subjected him to a testy cross-examination about his intentions, who he was and where he was going. At the end of the questioning, he surprised us with a question of his own, and point blank asked us if he and Elizabeth had our blessing to pursue their relationship. Despite the fact that 35 was still a significant number of years away, we relented and gave our blessing. Fast forward to the following Christmas, 2003. Tom called me early in December and advised me that he would like to surprise Elizabeth by flying out to the Black Hills and would like to propose to her during his time here. He asked me if there was a particular location that was special or meaningful to her, and I suggested that his timing was perfect for a Harney Peak event. Our friend Jeff had arranged for us to have a boys and a girls cabin outside Hill City for two nights, and Jeff agreed to ferry Tom from the airport so he was already at the cabins when our family arrived. Suffice it to say, everyone was surprised and delighted (especially Elizabeth) to see Tom there, but no one had a clue that there might be an ulterior motive. So we played card games and word games and used the sauna and the hot tub and ate and relaxed, started the tradition of a New Year’s Eve toast with root beer, and five of us (the young couple, Jeff and myself and my youngest daughter, Moriah) prepared for the Harney Peak hike on New Year’s Day. For all practical purposes, it seemed like our usual trek, except that we were introducing a Minnesota snowboarder to the natural beauty of the Needles and more.
Drug Treatment
Corticosteroids (commonly called steroids) are mainstay treatments for acute relapses patients with relapse-remitting MS. High-dose methylprednisolone given intravenously (IVMP) is typically administered for major relapse, often followed by oral prednisone for a few days. Steroids reduce inflammation in the central nervous system and may help suppress the immune system's attack on myelin and even improve electrical conduction. Steroids, in general, do not improve the long-term course of the disease and can lose effectiveness if overused. They are not generally used for maintenance therapy. Some research, however, is reporting benefits from the use of pulsed administration of intravenous methylprednisolone. Such an approach typically administers the steroid daily for 5 days every 4 months for 3 years, then every 6 months for 2 years.
Generation distraction
The Upper Arlington teenager spends most evenings glued to her family's laptop computer -- sending instant messages; checking e-mail; and logging into Facebook, a popular social-networking Web site. At the same time, her iPod is shuffling through MP3 playlists, the television is providing white noise and her cell phone is buzzing with incoming calls and text messages. Keeping up with the multiple mediums takes work -- and time. "It's crazy," Kelsey said. "It'll be an hour, and I haven't even touched my homework." Besides providing an excuse to procrastinate, however, such multitasking -- increasingly routine among today's tech-savvy young people -- could be setting the stage for bigger problems. A growing body of research suggests that juggling various tasks at once might be driving kids to distraction that can hinder their psychological development.
Hairspray and Parade Top 2008 Olivier Nominations
The West End premiere of the Broadway musical Hairspray led nominations for the 32nd annual Laurence Olivier Awards, nabbing a record-breaking 11 in total, including Best New Musical and leading actor and actress in a musical for stars Michael Ball and Leanne Jones. At the same time, the London debut of the Jason Robert Brown musical Parade scored an impressive seven nods, leading the best-ever haul for the tiny Donmar Warehouse, which tallied 13 noms in all. Completing the best musical lineup are The Lord of the Rings, which went on to feature predictably strongly in the design categories, and The Drowsy Chaperone, a Broadway hit that flopped in London after only a few months. Stars Summer Strallen and Bob Martin were nommed for their work in the Canadian-spawned show, with Martin the lone London holdover from Drowsy's Broadway cast.
