Dentil moldings, modern baths, and pond views

Having no garage is a small price to pay for a sunny historic house just off Route 2, with views of Spy Pond, and walking distance to Arlington Center.

A driveway can handle two cars, and the side mudroom entry makes it easy to dump outside gear. The front entrance makes a statement up a slight hill from the main road (keeping the inside quiet). It is painted pale pink with a bold portico; this, combined with concrete steps and mature plantings, beckons toward an inside that is mostly true to its era, but also includes updates.

It's a bit abrupt to enter into the living room, but the wonderful older features distract from that concern - coffered ceilings, stained-glass windows, dentil molding, and narrow hardwood floors. A medium-sized dining room shines with a magnificent half-round triple-panel window.

Eustis, Wildwood to start at top

Two of the hottest basketball teams from the Lake/Sumter area heading into next week's boys basketball district tournaments may be Eustis and Wildwood. Coincidentally, they also are the two area teams entering the tournaments as top-seeded teams.

Going into Thursday night's games, Eustis (18-5 overall, 7-0 in district) is riding a six-game winning streak and is No. 1 in the Class 4A, District 7 Tournament at Bishop Moore. South Lake (13-9, 6-1), which is playing in the Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament this week, is the second-seeded team.

Wildwood (19-4, 7-1), which met Leesburg on Thursday night, is the top-seeded team in the 3A-7 tournament at Mount Dora and has won 10 games in a row. Ocala Trinity Catholic (18-4, 7-1) is seeded second, but the Celtics are ranked No.

GB Special Olympics squad claims nine medals

Having already secured a Men's Doubles gold medal on Tuesday, Leicestershire's Thomas Styles won another gold in his Men's Singles event on Wednesday after defeating Salvatore Famao of Germany 6-1 in his final.

Earlier in the week Styles had beaten Youssef Gadalla of Egypt by the same score to reach the final. Scotland's Stephen McEwan, already a Men's Doubles bronze medallist, also clinched a Men's Singles gold medal on Wednesday after defeating Australia's Peter Kerin 6-2. The third gold medal of the day went to Leicestershire's Zara Jurenko. Jurenko added to Tuesday's Women's Doubles silver medal when defeating Karla Galan of El Salvador 6-2 to top the podium in her Women's Singles Division. Having also played off for a gold medal Wales' Lucy Pethig had to settle for a silver after her final Women's Singles match as she slipped to a 0-6 defeat to Yalan Xue of China.

NEC FlexLoad: Downgrade easily from Vista to XP

Although Windows Vista has proven decidedly more popular than Windows XP, despite the negative feedback Vista has received from many quarters, there are many businesses that simply still need XP. In preparation for XP's discontinuation in July 2008, OEMs are preparing to offer those potential customers alternatives to the upcoming limitation of only being able to the purchase XP in 50+ quantities.

NEC Computers has introduced NEC Flexload, a software solution aimed at IT administrators that allows them to downgrade rapidly and easily from Microsoft Windows Vista Business (the only edition that NEC supports the downgrade for) to Microsoft Windows XP Professional. The company explains that many networks are still running on XP; as long as they can remain within the law, NEC Computers is not about to lose potential customers.

Lubavitch Chabad defers its dream

For months, people living near the southwest corner of Clark and Chestnut wondered about the hole in the ground. The owner, Lubavitch Chabad, planned a Center for Jewish Life on the site, but couldn't raise the money.

Apparently deferring its dream of a new building, the organization has a tentative agreement to sell the property to Chicago-based LG Development Group. Ariel Weissberg, attorney for Lubavitch Chabad, said LG wants to build a 15- to 20-story condo building with just two high-end units per floor. The Chabad, he said, may look at other sites to build a spiritual sanctuary.

The property is part of a planned development that requires any developer to obtain the consent of neighbors before building. Talks are under way, Weissberg said, noting that downtown Ald.
